Attendance Allowance – To qualify, you must be over 65 and have a physical or mental disability which is severe enough for you to need help caring for yourself.

Under 65’s
Incapacity Benefit – If you are of working age and cannot work because of ill health or disability, you may be entitled to Incapacity Benefit.

Disability Living Allowance – If you are under 65 when you claim, have a physical or mental disability and need help to care for yourself or have difficulty walking you may be entitled to Disability Living Allowance. How much you get is based on the level of disability and care needed. If you are over 65 and meet this criteria, you should claim Attendance Allowance.

Carer’s Allowance – If you care for someone for over 35 hours a week, you may be entitled to Carer’s Allowance. If you earn over £84 a week, or are in receipt of state pension, you will not receive the allowance but will qualify for an underlying entitlement which can qualify you for other benefits.

Council Tax Benefit – If your income and savings are below certain levels, you may be entitled to Council Tax Benefit. As it is one of the most complex benefits to apply for, it is recommended that you contact the Kent Benefits Partnership for assistance.

Council Tax Discount – If someone is in receipt of Attendance Allowance , Disability Living Allowance,Incapacity Benefit, Constant Attendance Allowance, Severe Disablement Allowance, Income Support including a disability premium or the disability element of working tax credit and have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or dementia, they are entitled to Council Tax Discount. IT IS NOT MEANS TESTED. It is based on the fact that anyone with these conditions cannot make full use of the facilities, such as libraries, that Council Tax pays for.
